We all want that quick fat loss tip; we find lists like how to lose weight or how to build muscle. These can be insightful or down right idiotic. There are no short cuts to being healthier, though I do hope with my little “fact sheet” it helps to focus you a little in your health journey and makes those days where you want to crack, a little easier to deal with. With that in mind I shall get on with it. Here are 5 things that you should keep in mind when improving your health.
Patience
Sometimes it is easier said than done. What you need to keep in mind is that improving your health, losing weight or building muscle takes time. We live in a world where we wanted everything ten minutes ago. Our bodies don’t work according to a time frame. What might take Jane Blogs 10 weeks to could take Jane Doe less time or even more. Take it day by day. You want to stop eating sugar; you go two days but day three you cave in. That’s ok tomorrow you just start again. Spending even just 3 days out of the 7 at the start will help you towards your goals. The best approach is the tortoise mentality. Take your time enjoy the process and learning.
Reduce sugar intake
This is something that gets over looked way to often. A lot of diets for weight loss will normally have you focus on your calories and/or macros. How much carbohydrates, fat or protein you are eating. When I mention reducing sugar what I mean is the added sugars from processed foods. This doesn’t mean you need to stop eating fruit. Having too much added sugars in our bodies will mess up the hormonal balance our bodies like to maintain. It causes the body to store this extra sugar in our fat cells. Though sugar is such a general term. Added sugar is a glucose fructose blend either 50/50 (table sugar) or 45/55 (High Fructose Corn Syrup) we don’t need these in our diet and should be reduced or eliminated as much as possible.
Relax, except a ‘binge’
There will be times you might over eat or even binge at a meal or in a day or two. When these moments happen it can be easy to feel like you want to give up. First thing you need to understand, everyone has moments like this. Except it for what it was, just a bump on your journey to good health. The fittest and healthiest people in the world will have days or even a meal where they over eat. It is all part of the learning experience, as time goes on these will happen less and less.
Keep it simple
With so much information out there in the world it can become very easy to get bogged down with information overload. What is a good idea is keeping your own goals and challenges nice and simple. Things that can either be achieved or followed without to much instruction. I really like simple. With so much going on in life your health should be the easiest thing to manage. Want to lose weight? Start maybe with just changing part of one meal. Want to be fitter? Just do something for 5-10 minutes once a week or day. Whatever you can do simplify it as much as possible. Soon it will snow ball, these small things will look like big changes to others over time.

Just move
Everywhere you look on “how to lose weight” there are sites and articles they keep referencing energy on energy out or certain exercises and workouts are being recommended. Lets not forget, to have a strong body exercise is a must, but making sure your diet is as healthy as possible should be top of your list. Saying that I think it’s just as important to keep the body moving. It can be done however you see fit. Like going to the gym? Go. Not a fan of working out? You can re-design your day to make sure you move more during. Take the stairs, park a little further away from the supermarket entrance, get off a stop earlier when using the bus, you can even start just by standing for 5 minutes every hour. Moving the body should be natural and done as often as you can. If there are limitations then only do what is possible.
Sometimes I feel we lose sight of what’s really important. We get bogged down with too much detail. It’s always a good idea to take a step back now and then. Think of it like an oil painting, close up it looks like a mess, as soon as you step back you can see the beauty and detail of it all. These are things that I keep in mind for my own goals. Hope this helps in some small way.
